Next Chapter

April 27, 2024

Being successful in college starts with preparation NOW! It is never too early to begin talking about college with your youth. Nebraska Extension has partnered with the University of Nebraska –Lincoln Admissions to develop a statewide program for 4-H members to help families begin conversations in the 8th grade.

Next Chapter at Nebraska is a college-readiness program that helps students prepare for and succeed in college by providing the skills students need to reach their academic goals. The program is facilitated through Nebraska 4-H.

What is 4-H School Enrichment?

Cooperation between schools and Nebraska Extension has existed for many years in Wayne County, complementing the educational goals of both organizations.  The 4-H School Enrichment Program uses materials that are research-based and produced by specialists from the University of Nebraska—Lincoln, the National 4-H Council and various universities and organizations throughout the United States.

Since 1991, Bruce Anderson, a now retired Extension Forage Specialist, has been making is way across the air waves with his Hay and Forage Minute. When first starting out, he was broadcasted on three different stations, but more recently it has aired across as many as 50 Nebraska radio stations. Though Bruce is no longer producing these segments, the program has not gone away. Through the foundation and following that Bruce had built, the program will continue on as Pasture and Forage Minutes. With the help of Nebraska Extension specialists and educators, the program, three Pasture and Forage Minute programs will be produced per week. The voices behind the new program are Daren Redfearn (Forage Specialist), Jerry Volesky (Forage Specialist), Megan Taylor (Cropping Educator), Brad Schick (Beef Educator), and Ben Beckman (Beef Educator).
